Counselling & Psychotherapy

Jen Southon

Counselling is helpful if you want to talk about an issue to someone who is completely removed from that situation. In counselling you will find a safe and non-judgemental space in which to discuss anything you want to, confidentially.

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have been counselling adult individuals for many years, covering areas such as anxiety, abuse, bereavement, depression, self esteem, relationships, family, health and spiritual issues.

I use a person centred approach as well as solution-focussed brief therapy. Both are respectful of the client’s view of what is going on and believe that the client has the strengths and resources to solve their problems. Counselling happens at your own pace and I would keep your goals in mind to ensure that it is continuing to be as helpful as possible for you.

Counselling would mostly consist of talking and creative, therapeutic exercises, if you are willing to do them.

Very often the demands placed on us mean that we lose sight of our own needs. By taking time to talk about your life, counselling can help you to get back into contact with these lost areas.

"I have been seeing Jen for therapy for around 6 months and this has been invaluable for helping me navigate a difficult divorce from my husband and deal with the trauma of events that took place during the relationship.  Her calm manner and insight has helped me enormously".

SIAN HUGHES

I am a HCPC Registered Psychologist and a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. I have experience working with adults with a range of emotional difficulties and I also support people with issues around attachment and past trauma. I am trained in a range of psychological models so we can work together to best understand what you have been experiencing and decide what therapy would be most useful for your particular needs. I also have experience in working with more complex difficulties such as people who have a diagnosis of, or experience symptoms that may be consistent with, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Complex Trauma, and Personality Disorders. Choosing the right person to support you through therapy is important, and therefore I am happy to chat to discuss in more detail what you are looking to gain from therapy and what I might be able to provide to help you achieve your goals.

Please email me at sonderpsychologicalservices@gmail.com to arrange a no obligation chat.

Marion Moody

Within a professional relationship with clear boundaries and maximum confidentiality, I provide a safe, respectful and non-judgmental environment for you to explore any issues you may be struggling with. I combine specific skills with extensive theoretical knowledge and intuition in order to help you explore these more deeply, the eventual aim of such deeper exploration being for you to find your own answers. Together we can identify anything which might be blocking you from doing this and find suitable ways in which you might address these blocks. I will not give advice or provide answers, although I may sometimes offer a different perspective or suggestions. I believe that people have the answers within. My role is therefore to help you mobilize and extend your resources, and hopefully provide you with tools by which to become your own best therapist. I will combine support with sensitive challenge in order to help you do this.

My approach is integrative and heavily based on the person-centered approach pioneered by Carl Rogers. I prefer to fit theories around clients rather than vice versa. I therefore draw on a range of different models according to client needs. I often like to work with imagery, dreams, the body and creative approaches such as drawing, clay-modelling or writing as ways of accessing deeper-than-everyday levels of consciousness, and have a particular interest in the application of mindfulness as a way of learning to relate to emotions and thoughts in a healthier way.

I qualified as an Embodied Therapist in 2022 with the Institute of Embodied Psychotherapy. I believe that a "bottom up" approach using the body as a resource can be a gateway to deeper levels of awareness which are often difficult to reach through cognitive work alone, and that the body is a much underestimated element in the healing process. I also have a qualification in Interpersonal Therapy for Depression (IPT), and am currently training to be a sound healer with voice.

I have been accredited with BACP since 2011. I work with individuals and couples aged 18 and over, and have 20 years' experience working with wide range of issues across a number of settings including NHS, voluntary organisations, Employee Assistance Provider and private work.
