It is definitely Spring because the daffodils have finally woken up in our gardens and its raining! We’ve also seen the end of the Six Nations Rugby (and the least said about that the better!).

CLINIC NEWS       20% discount

We have had a very quiet start to 2010 so we’ve been looking for new ways to promote our Clinic.  We have always been grateful to all our patients who regularly recommend us to other prospective patients and it’s a constant stream of new patients that help to keep our Clinic viable.  Unfortunately as the old saying goes `if you’ve had a good experience you will tell maybe two people but if you’ve had a bad experience you will probably tell nine!’  We therefore need to encourage more people to tell more people about us so we have decided to offer a 20% discount voucher for future treatments for all those patients who recommend a new patient to us! So if you’ve had a good experience at our Clinic please tell at least nine people but if you’ve had a bad experience please keep quiet!! Thanks.

A second way to promote our business has been us signing up to `The Best of Pontypridd’.  This is an online system of advertising which uses people’s testimonials in order to promote the business.  There is also a selection of money off vouchers for new patients to take advantage of, so why not tell all those new patients to register with `The Best of Pontypridd’ on www.thebestof.co.uk/pontypridd and they can take advantage of saving money too!  Other businesses in Pontypridd are also registered so it’s a good way of supporting local businesses and saving money at the same time.

Ceri-Anne Davies our receptionist is going to run the London Marathon on Sunday 25th April, 2010 in aid of Cancer Research at Llandough Hospital’s Gynaecological Oncology Unit.  Ceri has been training hard and we would like to wish her all the very best.  Her sponsor form is available in reception for anyone wanting to support this worthwhile cause.

Are you a “grin and bear it” sufferer of Osteoarthritis?

A number of patients seeking help from our Osteopaths have received a diagnosis of ‘wear and tear’ by their GP.  Unfortunately, many people who receive a similar diagnosis believe that there is no help available other than medication and possibly a future operation. This is because they incorrectly assume that by ‘wear and tear’ they actually have osteoarthritis; and this leads to an assumption that is necessary to ‘grin and bear’ the pain as it is part of life.

Angela Cavil comments “approximately 50% of our patients are aged between 31 and 55 years of age, and a majority of these have been given the label “wear and tear”.  This is quite young when you consider that the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis generally onsets during and after middle age.

Angela continues “ We see 26% of patients between the ages of 56 and 75 who also benefit form osteopathic treatment, despite many having osteoarthritis.

This means that there is most likely a huge pool of people between, say 55 and 70 who could benefit from osteopathic treatment but simply do not seek  support because they have interpreted their GP as meaning there is no other treatment available for them. This is not true.

Osteoarthritis produces pain and stiffness quite similar to that produced by the general aging process but so do the strains twists and sprains of ordinary life.

‘Joints get disturbed, muscles get tight, blood flow gets reduced, nerves get trapped at any age

and the subsequent inflammatory pain is often wrongfully construed as osteoarthritis and therefore perceived by the sufferer as incurable when in fact it is most often possible to cut down pain levels and improve quality of life by osteopathic treatment.”

Osteoarthritis, which is really a disease of cartilage, causes further stiffening of muscles as a response to pain and guarding-this cycle can be broken into by treatment and slowed down.

Too many people currently ‘grin and bear’ pain, believing that their suffering is natural but form pregnant women to those with chronic arthritis osteopathy can help alleviate pain and enable ‘sufferers’ to have a better quality of life.

Fybromyalgia

Common symptoms are:

  • Muscle pain and stiffness
  • Fatigue
  • Specific ‘tender points’
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Poor concentration
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Osteopathy has been found to help with the muscle pain and stiffness associated with fibromyalgia and the aloe gelly drinks we stock in our clinic are beneficial for the bowels.

What our patients say about us:

On a lighter note for those ladies wishing to trim down for the summer

♦   The older you get, the tougher it is to lose

weight because by then, your body and

your fat are really good friends.

♦   I gave up jogging for my health when my

thighs kept rubbing together and setting

     fire to my knickers
