The South Wales Osteopathic Society (SWOS) was founded in 1989 by a group of a dozen or so osteopaths based in South Wales. Recently SWOS launched a campaign to try to get your osteopathic treatment paid for by the NHS. This will certainly help us all in this economic climate but we need your help. We ask that you write to your assembly member (AM) and the Local Health Board (LHB) explaining how you have benefited from osteopathic treatment and posing the question `Why can’t I have my treatment paid for by the NHS?’ We really hope that as many of you as possible will join our campaign. "Alcohol and Health" an alternative approach by Lee Evans

A large part of training in Osteopathy is your ability to justify your decisions, so here’s how to justify excessive booze intake over the festive period.

As Ben Franklin said: `In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.’ In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 litre of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more that 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E.coli) – the bacteria found in faeces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop! However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or scotch, tequila, rum, whiskey, gin or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop, Alcohol = Health Therefore, it’s better to drink wine and talk stupid ….. than to drink water and be full of s**t.

Eat correctly. Make sure you get your daily dose of fruits and veggies. Take your vitamins and bump up your vitamin C. Get plenty of exercise because exercise helps build your immune system. Walk for at least an hour a day, go for a swim, take the stairs instead of the lift, etc. Wash your hands often. If you can’t wash them, keep a bottle of antibacterial soap around.
